Hi, I am Zafar Pervez, founder of the NJC Arts. Welcome to our site. I hope you will find your visit enjoyable and that maybe, if you live in London, you will be able to participate in our activities one day.

Hi! I'm Tim, a multi-instrumentalist, composer, producer, teacher - a general enthusiast for all things musical. I am the NJC Music Director and you're most likely to find me in the studio recording or mixing music, though I also spend hours at home composing new choons and songs or dreaming how the launch of the NJC Festival can bring London's home grown performers to a new level of confidence and expertise.

On top of all that, I am also Head of Music at a specialist arts college in east London. I recently received the Jack Petchey Leadership Award, in the field of music, for services to young people.

Hi,

I'm Yasmine Mohammed and I am a teacher of the visual arts.

I helped to decorate the centre and I try to make our concert environments an inspiration to the many kinds of people who come to hear the musical creativity of NJC's artists. As a teacher I especially love to see young people get their chance to perform before such appreciative audiences and then go on to record their tracks for their friends.

I'm Ben, I moved from being the world's leading expert on specific Himalayan muds to the stimulation of a east-end multi-cultural arts environment where I meet people and sounds from the world over.

I manage project development, organize events, oversee a multitude of activities in a variety of cultural settings..usually all at once..and occasionally I try my hand at mending keyboards.

My PhD in climate change has equipped me in amazing ways!

Hi, I'm Stephen Smith, an Ethnomusicologist (MA). I find fascinating all things multi-cultural (BA: Cross-cultural Studies). I was trained in classical piano and trombone and am particularly interested in the music and musicians of the Indian Subcontinent. That said, I enjoy music from all over the world: Hindustani, Latino, Fusion, Country, Folk, Jazz, Rock, Pop, Classical, R&B, even Rap!

My dream is to enable a diversity of performing artists to thrive – both in their art and in their well-being. Whatever the medium (Music, sculpture, poetry, writing, film-making...), creativity is about being given a gift of imagination, developing and honing that gift, then giving it away for the benefit of others. I am passionately committed to helping people complete their own Gift of Creativity.

Hello, I am Rosemary, co-founder of the NJC Arts and a director of the mother-company, Citicare International Ltd, a UK registered charity that only not hosts the NJC but gets involved in alleviating poverty. For example, our youngest artist, Sarah Francis, used her amazing vocal skills to promote reconciliation between nations, She was recently awarded the prestigious UK Beacon Prize for Young Philanthropist!

Artists helping artists, impacting the world positively through their lives; enabling diverse communities to come together; make the activities of the NJC, challenging and fulfilling. As an Oxford MA graduate in the natural sciences and a trained Social Anthropologist (MA), the world of the performing arts is always an adventure for me!

We are privileged to have three exceptional and well-known musicians as our patrons, maestros in voice, percussion and strings. Our patrons all know the power of music in society and the richness it can bring into our lives. They have dedicated their lives to artistic excellence and innovative creative expression:

Sir Cliff Richard, OBE

Ustad Zakir Hussain

Ustad Sabri Khan.

There are many artists associated with the Noor Jehan Centre, (NJC Arts). Some live in London, others drop by when on tour. At NJC Arts, they can relax and chat or respond to the inspiring surroundings to generate more music!

The stimulation of music professionals getting together from different backgrounds and disciplines can lead to new creative endeavours, ongoing partnerships, professional support for younger artists or innovative activities of benefit to the communities they represent.

.

We will be featuring more artists here through the months to come, click on the 'Artists' button to meet a selection of individuals who have contributed to NJC concert productions and community activities to date.

NJC Arts is a performing arts centre with a difference, we are driven by a grass-roots agenda emerging from artists themselves. Our plans are flexible - not always predictable! While some events, such as the NJC Festival, take months to plan, others can happen in a matter of days! Whether poetry reading, multi-cultural gala concerts, schools events, DJ parties or workshops in music or movement, each unique event provides a learning experience for all. The languages used at NJC have included Hindi, Bengali, Urdu, Somali, Punjabi, Korean, Persian, Arabic, English.

We develop the talents and skills of local people in everything from video production to event management or the complex disciplines of performing art itself. Matching skilled volunteers with keen learners, everything is designed to be 'value added'.
